A PolyX Project
Overview
The Kuenzli Street Bridge overlay marked the final phase of the Regional Transportation Commission’s (RTC) 2025 Bridge Maintenance Project in Reno, Nevada. Partnering with QD Construction, this effort was part of a larger initiative that also included improvements to the Ralston Street, Valley Road, and Evans Avenue bridges. With a total investment of $2 million funded by the RTC Fuel Tax, the project reflects the region’s commitment to extending the service life of critical transportation infrastructure while minimizing disruption for the traveling public.
Work on the Kuenzli Street Bridge was completed over the course of four days in August 2025. On Monday, Anrak Corporation removed the existing bridge deck surface, followed by QD crews cleaning and shot blasting on Tuesday to prepare the surface for new materials. On Wednesday, and Thursday, the Polyester Polymer Concrete was paved and set within 30 minutes of application. Within two hours the Schmidt hammer test was administered returning a compressive strength ranging from 38 in the shaded areas to 42 with full exposure.
For this project, PolyX’s CEX-320: Polyester Polymer Concrete overlay system was chosen for its ability to deliver long-term durability and rapid return to traffic. By combining exceptional strength with fast installation, the system ensured that the bridge was not only completed on schedule but also equipped to withstand Nevada’s demanding climate and heavy traffic loads. The result is a resilient, cost-effective solution that underscores PolyX’s role in helping agencies and contractors deliver infrastructure projects that last.
